Blue Bayfield is committed to reducing or eliminating the use of single use bottled water in our community and encouraging communities around us do the same. Since 2015, Blue Bayfield and its partners have provided the community with over 2000 refillable water bottles. To support this endeavour, it has raised over $13,000 from citizens and community organizations for the purchase of five water refill stations.
These stations are located in the library, Clan Gregor Square, upper arena meeting area, arena foyer and outside at the Bayfield Marina south side washrooms.
Since the installation in 2018, the five refill station counters indicate that over 80,000 bottles have been refilled. (January 2020). Since less than 5% of single use bottles are recycled, this effectively diverted that number of single use bottles from landfill sites or ending up as waste plastic in the Great Lakes.
These stations were donated to the Municipality of Bluewater who assumed responsibility for their installation and maintenance.
